Duvel is actually dialect for devil in the Flemisch part of Belgium. The comes from Duvel Moortgat Brewery, which is a Flemish family-controlled brewery founded in 1871. Its strong golden pale ale, Duvel, is word famous because of the export to more than forty countries.
The Classic Duvel is brewed with Pilsner malt and dextrose, and hopped with Saaz hops and Styrian Goldings. The yeast still stems from the original culture of Scottish yeast bought by Albert Moortgat during a business tour of the U.K. just after World War I.
Since 2007, Duvel Tripel Hop is brewed with three hop varieties instead of two and each year the third hop is changed to provide its own unique taste and aroma. Over the years, there were the following hops: Amarillo, Citra, Sorachi Ace, Mosaic, Equinox and HBC 291
